This was a medieval French term for a unit of knights, some 20 to 60 in number, usually the following of a particular lord. Dating to the 12th century, usage of the word proves that knightly cavalry was capable of battlefield manoeuvre, including feigned flights. Sometimes the word conroi could mean the whole battle array.
